1st Annual Frogman “Toasty Warm” Swim
What: 3.1-mile (5K) swim from Tampa to St Petersburg (Florida not Russia)
Where: Gandy Beach to Picnic Island
When: Sunday, Jan. 3, 8 a.m. kickoff
Why: Fundraiser for LT Dan Cnossen, U.S. Navy SEAL and US Naval Academy (USNA) graduate in 2002, who was recently severely wounded in Afghanistan during combat operations. Dan is a warrior and man of character who lives by the motto, “Life is all about extremes…” More details can be found on Dan’s Story at the website: http://www.dancnossen.org/story.html
Sam Farnan, a USNA class of 2014 hopeful, is organizing the swim. Each swimmer’s goal will be to raise a minimum of $500 dollars from family & friends. All proceeds will go to the LT Dan Cnossen Fund. All checks make payable to "Dan Cnossen Fund" and or Mail directly to: Dan Cnossen (c/o LT Ray), 25 Baldridge Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401
The swim will follow the route of the original Tampa Bay Watch Swim first completed by local open-water swimmer Ron Collins and gang of his Clearwater Beach Safety buddies back in the fall of ’98.
Depending on the conditions, it will take most swimmers 45 minutes to 1 and ½ hours to complete the crossing. Each swimmer will have a kayak volunteer to guide them across (bring your own kayaker if you have one). So we need a head count as soon as possible.
Please note, this is an unsanctioned, uninsured, invitation only event. If you want to swim, you must get clearance from one of the following: Ron Collins, Tim Kennedy, Patty Nardozi, Dan O’Shea or Terry Tomalin.
All finishers over the age of 21 get a special post swim treat, a 16-ounce can of warm BUD.
Fins / Wetsuits optional
